or not.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A friend asks,\u00a0<em>\u201cHey, can I get your advice on something?\u201d,<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">or our child needs some instruction, or our spouse shares something with us, or a co-worker tells you that they are overwhelmed. <\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In all of these instances, we usually try to give advice or <em>counsel<\/em> from our own life experience or from what we know- either from the Bible or elsewhere.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\" data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1376\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At its core, biblical counseling is built on the belief that every follower of Jesus is called to encourage and walk alongside others in faith. It is helpful to teach us what is right, correct us in areas where we are wrong, encourage us when we are hopeless and present us \u201ccomplete\u201d if we will hear it and obey it (2 Tim. 3:16-17; Ps. 19:7-11; 2 Pet. 1:3).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>The power of God is the only thing that can change us<\/strong><\/span>. As created beings, it is best for us to go back to our Creator when we are\u00a0facing trials of any kind. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can access the power of God to change us from patterns that are hurtful to others, or overcome how others have hurt us (Eph. 4:20-24).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Jesus is our hope for now and forever<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0We\u00a0believe that Jesus was sent to the world to show us the way to find lasting and eternal hope. He came to free us from the bondage that comes from a life that is not pleasing to God.
